Slip Resistant Footwear Program

Having a slip-resistant footwear program is necessary for all schools in Vermont!

Slips, trips, and falls are at the top of the list for incidents at Vermont schools in the Multi-Line program. Falling hurts, and can lead to serious injuries! A program like this is simple to setup, and we partnered with Shoes for Crews to make it even easier!

Follow these steps to get started:

  1. Sign up your SU/SD for the corporate program. It's important to assign one point of contact for the Shoes for Crews corporate program at the SU level - HR Manager, Business Manager, or Facility Director. Shoes for crews can then work with each school as needed. Please email Shoe for Crews to get started, InsurancePartners@shoesforcrews.com
  2. Offer the shoes/ice cleat discounts to all staff - this is important because our data shows that teachers, paras, and school admins are more likely to slip and fall than facilities and kitchen staff. We recommend sending an email campaign from the SU/SD to all staff.
  3. Consider developing a budget to pay for the shoes/ice cleats. This is typical for school facilities and kitchen staff. It's common for a single pair of shoes be provided on an annual basis, and for new hires in those positions. We understand this is not feasible to do for all staff, but at the very least you can offer the discount to those interested.
