This course will provide an overview of the full scope of insurance coverages as they pertain to Vermont schools. Strategies to implement best practices in risk management for school operations and facilities management will be discussed as well.
HHB Deep Dive - October 12, 2017
This training is designed to provide an in-depth treatment of the investigative process to be followed by administrators, designees and/or investigators responding to notice of policy violations in cases of inappropriate student conduct.
Emerging Legal Issues for Schools - October 24, 2017
This forum will discuss emerging issues facing VT schools. Items such as FLSA overtime changes, Public Records Act compliance, “Ban the Box” law, civil rights of transgender students, and hazing will be discussed. Topics are subject to change.
Mandatory School Policies – The Administration’s Role (Procedures, Handbooks, etc.) - January 9, 2018
This forum will provide an overview of policies required by state and federal law, across multiple areas of school district operations such as emergency planning, student attendance and discipline and privacy rules. The presentation will include a discussion of the requirements and their legal implications, the role of school personnel in implementation including notice requirements and procedure development. Also included will be an overview of state board requirements related to the same.
ADA – Employee Leave (everything except FMLA) - February 7, 2018
This forum will discuss the alphabet soup associated with employee leave. Attendees will leave with working knowledge of the ADA and how/when to accommodate employees. The intersection of ADA, FMLA and worker’s compensation laws will be explored in detail as well as how all of the above mesh with collective bargaining agreements.
FMLA Deep Dive - April 24, 2018
This course will dive into the depths of the issue that generates the most questions to the Multi-Line Program, FMLA. Do you feel that your knowledge resides on the surface and you are always faced with scenarios that require more detailed knowledge? If so, this is the course for you!
